Black Peter - Pierre Noir - Schwarzer Peter

Black Peter

The photograph at the left partially pictures a deck of playing cards intended for the use of children. The deck was provided to passengers aboard Lufthansa Airline flights. Manufactured by Bielefelder Spielkarten, Bestell, Germany in the 1970s, the deck was donated to the Museum in 1977.

A clear hard plastic box 9.6cm long x 6.6cm wide x 1.4cm thick is the container for the deck. The lid and the bottom of the box are unmarked. In the box, there are 25 cards, each 9.4cm long x 5.9cm wide used for the game. An additional card has instructions printed in English, French, and German.

The back of each card (blue) is pictured in the photograph on the upper right. Peter is a "chimney-sweep" on a single card (pictured below the card back).

Twelve pairs of other cards illustrate people in various occupations, i.e. - shoemaker, baker, bricklayer, painter, carpenter, miller, chef, blacksmith, etc. The instructions indicate that the game is for two to four players.
