Game of Authors

Authors

The game pictured at the left was purchased by the Museum in 1981. It was manufactured by Parker Brothers, Salem, Massachusetts (US) in 1897.

The ornate box (now somewhat discolored) is 11.25cm long x 17.75cm wide x 2.5cm thick. The original colors were beige, salmon, gold, and red, with the same paisley design found on the backs of the cards. A card back is illustrated on the second row, lower right.

There are 40 cards (8.5cm long x 6.25cm wide) in the deck. The deck is divided into 10 "suits" with 4 cards in each suit. Each card features a photograph of an author, and a name and other biographic information printed in red. Instructions for play of the game are included in the box.
