Puzzle: Manipulative

Discuss Puzzle

This manipulative puzzle was donated to the Museum in 1975. It was made in Japan by a company called "Popular Puzzles". The box is 8cm long x 10.9cm wide x 1.6cm high, constructed of paper, cardboard, and plastic.

Under the clear plastic top cover are 3 sections. The top section is divided into 6 squares of different colors. The center section is a cardboard platform under the label, extending almost across the width of the box. At the right end is a gap between the platform end and the side of the box. The third section at the bottom is divided into 6 squares.

Five 1.7cm colored cardboard discs slide freely in the box. The intent is to manually arrange the discs on their respective colored squares in the bottom section, and then slide them through the platform opening and rearrange them in the top section. This is accomplished by manually manipulating the box.
