Carom Board

Carom Board

The photograph on the left is of a 28 3/4 inch traditionally square Carom board with four corner pockets.

It is made of wood stained reddish brown. It has a raised wooden rim around the playing surface.

There are six concentric circular lines surrounding the center.

While this is primarily a Carom board because of its square shape and corner pockets, it can also be used for the game of Crokinole. The green lines indicate the 22" playing area for the game of Crokinole. There are no steel Crokinole deflector pins on the surface. Checker board on rback of board

The photograph on the right shows the reverse side of this board. On this side is a standard 8x8 Chess/Checker matrix.

The producer of this board was Carom Industries, Ltd., Ludington, Michigan. From documentation, it appears that boards of this type were manufactured between 1945 and 1955.

Markings around the outside of the matrix indicate that some other games may be played on this board, though instructions for playing these other games were not made available with the board.
