Wonder Woman Game

Wonder Woman Game Box

This program was telecast from 1976 through 1979. It was based upon a comic book superhero of the 1940s. It was a weekly series and was set in the 1940s. The heroine (Lynda Carter) supposedly came from a lost island where a band of Amazon women had fled to in 200 B.C. to escape male domination by Greeks and Romans.

The lost island was called "Paradise Island" and on it was a magic substance called "Feminum" which was molded into a golden belt and golden bracelets. These objects gave the wearer superhuman strenth.

Wonder Woman game board

The game was donated to the Museum in 1991. As can be seen from the game board pictured on the right, the game is a type of track game, controlled by a chance device. Players in sequence move around the track from the start in the lower right of the board and attempt to be the first one to reach the end of the track at the upper right of the board.

In the television program, Wonder Woman demonstrated many athletic skills. The game board pictures some of these. Along the track are various instruction squares. If a player in moving around the board lands on one of these spaces, they must follow specific instructions which may help or impede their progress in winning the game.

Chance Device

The "chance device" used in the game (pictured on the left) was nested in the bottom of the game box. It was composed of a wheel and an attached arrow which each player spun. On the segments of the wheel were numbers. The numbers indicated the number of spaces a player could move on the track on the board.
