Game: Johnny On A Pony
(Detail from Brueghel's Painting)

Johnny On A Pony

Sometimes called Longhorse, this game is a variant of the ancient Roman game of How Many Horns Has The Buck and had been played for a few hundred years by Brueghel's time.

How The Game Is Played

This is a two team game. One team forms the “horse” and can not see how many “riders” are on their backs. The lead boy has his head buried in the arms of the boy sitting down. After all the “riders” mount, they hold up a number of fingers, and the boy with his head buried must guess the correct number.
