About the Canadian Index of Wellbeing (CIW)

CIW Domains

The CIW aims to promote wellbeing and improve the quality of life of all Canadians through research and policy recommendations. It is based in the Faculty of Applied Health Sciences at the University of Waterloo.

About the survey

The survey will gather information related to eight domains that are important to wellbeing: community vitality, healthy populations, democratic engagement, the environment, leisure and culture, education, living standards, and time use. The questionnaire takes about 30-35 minutes to complete, but you don’t have to complete it all at the same time. You can take a break and come back to it at any time between now and and May 20th.

Participation in this study is entirely voluntary. Any information you provide will be kept strictly confidential. Your name will not be linked to your answers. A report summarizing the overall results will be made available to the public on the Oxford County website. All the findings will be reported in a way that ensures that individuals cannot be identified.

This project has been reviewed and received ethics clearance through a University of Waterloo Research Ethics Committee. Additional protections and rights are described in the “Consent and Information Release” available HERE.

Neither Oxford County nor the Canadian Index of Wellbeing has access to the names and addresses. Personal information is protected by Canada Post since we have purchased mailing lists from them. The list they prepared goes directly to a mailing house that sends out the survey invitation and has signed a confidentiality agreement with Canada Post.

By beginning the survey, you acknowledge that you have read this information as well as the "Consent and Information Release" and understand and accept the proposed uses of the survey information you will be providing.

Your opinions are very important to us and so is your time. If you are unable to complete the entire survey in one sitting, take a break and come back later to finish. We're happy to wait!
