Lucky Puck

Luck Puck Box

Lucky Puck is a hand-held computer game which is intended as a simulation of ice hockey.

Manufactured by the Bambino company, the game was donated to the Museum in 1982. This game is one of a number of similar hand-held electronic hockey games that were marketed by major game manufacturers during the 1980s.

The game housing is made of plastic. Inside is a computer circuit board that generates various "blips" on the central screen as the arrow buttons are depressed. The arrow buttons control the play of this game for two players. Batteries are used to generate power to the circuit board.

Among these early handheld computer games, graphics as such were unknown, and players had to use considerable imagination to envision the electronic "blips" as hockey players on an ice rink. In fact, the rink itself (as other playing fields in similar games) were either painted on the transparent screen or etched into the screen.
