Face Off Hockey Game

Face Off Box

According to Plouffe this game illustrates the financial management transactions which occur in professional hockey regarding player trades among the teams in the NHL.

Donated to the Museum in 2005, this bilingual game has over 150 components, and in many ways is typical of other board games.

The colorful box is designed to suggest that it is a somewhat tongue-in-cheek approach to the game of hockey. It was manufactured by the House of Games, Toronto, Ontario. The game has a copyright date of 1974.

Face Off Board

The game board is 30cm x 26cm. The center of the board has been designed to represent a hockey rink, while around the side of the board are various game action instructions for players.

Participant symbols for the game are four 2.5cm x 1.5cm chess pawn like wooden pieces, one each of pink, blue, green, and black.

There is a deck of 9cm x 6cm game cards included, and a set of 10 green "hockey players" also for use in play of the game.

Since the game concerns financial management, one would not be surprised to find 100 multicolored bills of various denominations to be used during play of the game by the participants.

Finally, like many other board games, this one includes 2 standard 1.5cm cubed dice as a chance device.

On the box one is informed that this is a hockey management game for 2 to 4 players, aged 8 and up!
