UFO Master Blaster Game

Master Blaster

Donated to the Museum in 1982, this hand held electronic game is similar to the Video Game Space Invaders, and includes instructions in both English and French. The game (manufactured by Bambino, Inc., Los Angeles) has the appearance of a space ship.

The white plastic case is 24cm long x 13cm wide x 4.7cm high, flared at one end with a built in speaker. Battery doors on the back accept 4 AA batteries, or an AC adaptor can be attached to the case. The top surface of the case is divided into three sections: a small screen on which score for "hits" appear; a long and narrow screen upon which the UFOs attack; and a control area that features a "fire" button, "reset/power" button, "speed (1-3)" button, and a small "joystick".

How to play the game

UFOs float down the long and narrow screen toward the bottom where the player's missile base sits. The UFOs glide down in one of three hidden column areas. A player uses the joystick to navigate between the three columns. When a UFO is within range, a player can use the "fire" button to destroy a UFO.

The earlier a UFO is destroyed, the more points are accumulated; however, if a UFO reaches the bottom of the screen without being destroyed, it destroys the player's missile base. A player can speed up the decent of the UFOs with the "speed" button.
