Branford Novelties Crokinole Board

Crokinole Board

The photograph on the left is of a octagonial Crokinole board 29 inches across. The playing surface is 25 inches.

It is made of wood stained dark redish brown. It has a raised wooden rim 1/2 inch high, surrounding the playing surface. There appears to be no concentric circlular lines surround the "bullseye" in the center, as there are on some other boards. Nor are there deflector pins on the surface as is found on other Crokinole boards. It appears there were pins at one time, but these have now either decayed or a missing.

The maker of this board is Branford Novelties, Ltd., a manufacturing company in Bradford, Ontario, Canada. From documentation it appears that boards of this type were manufactured about 1922.

Back of board

The Board is in good condition. Although this board is octagonal in shape on the outer surface, the playing surface is the traditional round board.

The photograph on the right shows the reverse side of this board. The bottom of the board clearly shows the attachment of the side rails. Since the side rails are so wide, there appears to be no need for a brace along the back of the playing surface.
