Munro Crokinole and Checker/Chess Board

Crokinole Board

The photograph on the left is of a octagonial Crokinole board 28 1/8 inches wide. The playing surface is 15 inches.

It is made of wood stained golden brown. It has a lowered wooden rim surrounding the playing surface. Three round black concentric circular lines surround a "bullseye" in the center. The innermost black circular line has 8 raised metal pins - each pin is evenly spaced from the other along this line. A previous owner replaced the original deflector pins with brass screws covered by plastic tubing. Consequently, this created some damage to the reverse side.

The maker of this board is Munro Games, Ltd., Burlington, Ontario. It assumed that the board was made and distributed about 1962.

Back of board

The reverse of the base (pictured on the right) is made of a smooth compositional material.

The playing surface on this side features an 8x8 Chess/Checker matrix in the center of the board. Although this board is octagonal in shape on the outer surface, the playing surface for Chess or Checkers is the traditional square matrix.

The seeming design around the Chess/Checker matrix is another game known as "Space Rockets". There were no instructions with the board for playing this latter game, nor were there pieces for either the game of Crokinole or Chess or Checkers.
