Playing Cards: Finland

Card Box

This unique deck was purchased in Helsinki in 1975. While the flap-top box is rectangular, all of the cards are barrel shaped.

The box (pictured on the left) is 9.2cm long x 5.9cm wide x 1.pcm thick. Printing on the box is in Finnish. The graphic toward the botton front of the box is the manufactuer's logo.

Finish Cards

The deck includes 54 cards, 8.cm long x 5.6cm wide. There are two Jokers pictured as minstrels (bottom card on the right). Card backs are blue-green with brown designs, and a center sketch of a castle (first row on the right).

The international suit indicators are used - spades, hearts, dimonds, clubs. Each suit has ten numbered cards and three face cards.

Face cards are double headed and suit indicators appear in all four corners of each card. Unlike other international suited cards, these face cards use numbers to identify the cards, that is - Jacks or Knaves are 11, Queens are 12, and Kings are 13.
