The Bridge Players

Bridge Game Soft Sculpture

The photo at the left is of a soft sculpture in the collection. It's titled The Bridge Players, and is a satirical view of a typical bridge game.

The cards are are a miniature version of a North American 52 card deck. Although the cards may not be clearly identified in the photo, the expression of "The Dummy" (the figure which doesn't hold cards in her hands, center top of the photograph) may be clearly understood by bridge players around the world. From the cards on the table, and the "The Bidder's" hand - it looks like a no-trump grand slam!

The sculpture was created in 1981 by Barbara Plummer of Woodstock, New Brunswick, Canada. Many types of substances were used to create the sculpture - nylon, suede, metal, beads, etc.

Each figure is approximately 20cm long x 19cm wide x 40cm high. The table is 21.8cm square x 20.8cm high. The cards are 14.4cm long x 6.2cm wide, and are a standard 52 card deck.

The following are close-ups of the players.
