French Dominoes

French Domino Set

This set was acquired by the Museum in 1975 in Canada. It was manufactured in France and was sold as an import. This is not unusual in that domino sets from France found their way into Canada from the time Canada was a French colony.

The container for this set is made of a clear hard plastic. The lid is 10.8cm long x 16.3cm wide x .9cm high, and the bottom is 10.5cm long x 16cm wide x 1.8cm high. Within the bottom of the container are seven angled ridges, each ridge is designed to hold four dominoes.

Set Label

The cardboard label 1.6cm long x 16cm wide and enlarged on the right, indicates in both the French and English languages that the set was made in France. Actually, Museum records indicate that this label was part of a band which was on the outside of the plastic box and the band had been cut and placed in the box.

Some Dominoes

There are 28 dominoes in this set.

Each domino is 3.9cm long x 1.9cm wide x .7cm high, made of hard plastic, and in effect are really two sections glued together.

The top of each domino is white with black incised pips. The bottom of each is a solid red-orange color. Each top is divided by a white raised incised line

There is one "blank" in the set.
