Animal Families

Animal Families

The partially pictured deck on the left was manufactured in Austria in the 1970s. It was donated to the Museum in 1975. Information printed on the cards and the enclosed game instructions are printed in both English and French.

There are 40 large cards, each 11cm long x 6.3cm wide in the deck. The deck is divided into 10 animal families (suits), with 4 cards in each suit. Cards are numbered from 1 through 10 (upper corner in a black circle), and the animal family name is printed in red on the card below a sketch of an animal.

Two examples can be seen on the left of the photograph. The back of each card (card on the right in the photograph) contains information about the animal pictured on the front of the card.

The box is 11.3cm long x 7cm wide x 2.3cm thick. The box slides over an inner box which holds the deck.

The animals pictured are: fallow deer, stag deer, reindeer, elk, horse, cat, dog, cow, pike, trout, carp, barbel, shark, devil fish, sea-horse, angler fish, crocodile, giraffe, lion, rhinoceros, peregrine, falcon, hawk, vulture, osprey, macaw, cockatoo, gango, love-bird, heliothrix aurita, topouza pella, helmed crest, hummingbird, goldfinch, chaffinch, bullfinch, yellow-bunting, tiger, elephant, cobra, orangutan.
