ABC Spelet

ABC Spelet

The photograph at the left is a spelling game made in Sweden for sale in Finland. Instructions for the game are printed in both Swedish and Finnish. The game was produced by Kuvataide Bildknost in Sweden in the early 1970s. It was donated to the Museum in 1972.

The flap-top box (upper right of photograph) is 6.6cm long x 4.5cm wide x 2.4cm thick. Inside the box is an inner cardboard wrapper (4.3cm wide x 21.9cm long) which folds around the deck for storage purposes. Instructions are printed on two cards - one in Swedish, one in Finnish.

There are 55 cards in the deck, 6.4cm long x 4.2cm wide. Backs are pictured on the lower right. The deck is divided into 27 pairs and 1 special card. One of the pair of cards features an upper-case letter (bottom row left of photograph - the letter "V"), and the other card in the pair features the corresponding lower-case letter (upper row of photograph - the letter "v").

Each letter is drawn as an integral part of a sketch. On each card is a sentence about the drawing. The special single card has a drawing of a rooster (not pictured), the same one that appears on the box front.
