Game: RUNNING THE GAUNTLET
(Detail from Brueghel's Painting)

Running The Gauntlet

In this two team game, one team sits in two rows on the ground with knees drawn up, leaving a narrow lane between rows as illustated in Brueghel's painting.

The second team must then quickly attempt to get to the end of the lane without mishap, each member following closely behind the other.

This task is easier said than done, since at any time, a member of the “sitting” team may suddenly shoot out a leg or foot in an attempt to trip a runner from the other team.

After the "running team" has completed its run, the teams switch places. Needless to say, this can become a very rough game and one or more players could become injured if there isn't good feeling among the players on both teams.
