It is important when living with dementia or supporting someone with dementia, to consider options for the future early in the disease process. This includes care and support options for later stages of the disease. Having these difficult yet important discussions early in the process allows the person with dementia the opportunity to indicate their preferences for future care while they are able. Some people choose to receive care in their home until the end, whereas others will choose placement in a nursing home or long term care home. Either way, end of life care is important to talk about as a family.
