Our Mission

"To optimize health, to prevent injury and illness, and to extend the years of high quality life through understanding cellular to societal implications of physical activity, nutrition and lifestyle."

University of Waterloo Kinesiology program was the first kinesiology department in the world and has led the evolution of the discipline for the past 40 years.

Waterloo's unique co-op system has helped to develop jobs for all kinesiologists. Our students' and alumni's major contributions in establishing the Ontario Kinesiology Association and lobbying for regulation have defined a new health profession.

UW's Department of Kinesiology continues to lead with a learning experience, second to none, with hundreds of thousands of dollars spent each year on equipping our labs for advancement in patient/client assessment, prescription of corrective/therapeutic exercise, and prevention of injury and illness.
